Barry founded Mason Owen together with Geoff Mason in 1967. For sixty years, Barry has been involved in commercial property investment and development across the UK.
As one of the most significant employers in Liverpool, Mason Owen has trained hundreds of property professionals and been instrumental in shaping the regeneration of the city. Barry is a patron of the Tate, Liverpool and supporter of several charities.
In 2009, Barry was awarded an OBE by The Queen for services to business and charity in Liverpool. Barry is also a Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University. Barry is married to Susanne, with six children and seventeen grandchildren, which he calls his profit in life.
Simon joined Mason Owen in 1995 and is MD and Head of Investment. Simon specialises in the acquisition and disposal of commercial investment properties across the UK, advising a variety of institutional and private clients across all sectors.
Simon has been instrumental in the acquisition and asset management of prime Liverpool city centre properties over the last decade. Simon is an avid cyclist and in 2022 raised over £80,000 for Cure Parkinson’s by cycling 770km in the Raid Alpine endurance team.
Mark qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2002 and joined Mason Owen in 2003. Mark is Head of Asset Management, advising clients on how to maximise returns on their investments. Mark has an in-depth knowledge of all asset classes including large scale multi-let offices, shopping centre developments and high street retail.
He provides ongoing advice to clients including rent reviews and lease renewals, together with lease re-gears, to ensure that all assets meet their full potential. Mark has advised various clients in the set-up of management procedures and service charges on various commercial assets, which has included a full advisory role in the establishment of management systems, including the service charge accounts. Outside of work Mark is a keen runner having completed both the London and Edinburgh marathons.
Peter joined Mason Owen in October 1988 in the retail department dealing with lettings at Merry Hill Shopping Centre and Meadowhall Shopping Centre which was under construction at the time.
Peter has been involved in supermarket development and lettings/sales over those years for Kwik Save, Somerfield and Iceland having acquired or disposed of over 600 sites/units. He has dealt both in town and out of town and now tend to concentrate more on the traditional “High Street”. In his spare time Peter is devoted to Football and Rowing – not participating!
Alan joined Mason Owen in 2002 having previously been employed as an Asset Management Surveyor by Co-operative Insurance Society.
He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1992 and is a Director in the firm.
Alan has extensive experience of managing all types of commercial property, including shopping centres, multi tenanted office buildings and mixed-use schemes.
He currently advises a number of property company, private and charitable sector clients on the management of their property portfolios both in the North West and on a wider national basis.
Andrew is an experienced Chartered Surveyor and Registered Valuer, who has been a valuable member of the Mason Owen team since joining in 2004. With years of experience in the industry, Andrew has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the commercial property market.
Andrew is passionate about his work and is dedicated to providing our clients with exceptional service that consistently exceeds their expectations. He is highly skilled in negotiation, communication and problem solving which allows him to effectively manage client relationships and navigate complex situations. His in-depth market knowledge, coupled with his strong work ethic and attention to detail ensures our clients receive accurate and reliable advice that meets their specific needs.
Ben joined Mason Owen in July 2024 as the Health and Safety Surveyor within the FM side of the business. After recently leaving the British Army with over 20 years of service, he brings a wealth of experience in Facilities Management (FM) and Health and Safety from his military career. This extensive background also gives him a very keen eye for attention to detail.
Ben is qualified with NEBOSH Health and Safety Construction Management and holds an APM Project Management Qualification.
Outside of his role at Mason Owen, Ben can usually be found in the gym or spending weekends at the side of a rugby pitch. He serves as the pitch-side medic for his son’s rugby league team and enjoys watching the Leigh Leopards.
Callum joined Mason Owen in 2014 and specialises in advising both landlord and tenant side clients on the matters of lease renewals and rent reviews. Moreover, Callum provides asset management advice to several retained Mason Owen property management clients.
Some of Callum’s existing clients include Iceland Foods, The Co-operative Group and Greggs Plc.
After not really considering working in an office & being told banking was the best option for her, Carole is now on her way to 42 years at Mason Owen! Starting in accounts & studying, in her thirties, she worked her way up to FD, HR & all associated legal requirements.
Carole’s main aim is to empower others to ensure efficiencies & the continued success of the Company, well into the future. Achievements to date include good day to day management reporting & forecast of cash flow together with cost to ensure Mason Owen is well placed for any economic changes, most current inflation, Covid & before then the banking crisis of 2008. In her spare time, Carole has a Brewery to run & a dog to walk!
After spending 9 years in the Royal Navy as a Marine engineer I transitioned my career in 2015 to the legal sector to assume the role of National Workplace Buildings and Safety Manager. In this capacity, I was responsible for overseeing a substantial portfolio of offices.
I am a Technical member of ISOH and a recognised Member of Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (MIWFM)
I Love spending time with my family. We’re always outdoors paddle-boarding, hiking, fishing and having time away together.
David joined Mason Owen in 1994, having graduated from Aberdeen University with a Batchelor of Land Economy (BLE) Degree, and went on to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor in 1997. He is a Partner of the firm, and provides advice for numerous clients within the Asset Management department, including a number of listed REITs.
The advice provided covers a diverse portfolio, which includes everything from stand-alone shop units, to retail parks, and multi-let mixed use schemes and office blocks. Like all of those within the Asset Management department, geography is no barrier, and the advice David provides covers properties throughout the whole of mainland UK.
Being part of the Asset Management team means that the advice provided by David covers the full spectrum of L&T matters, service charge procurement / administration, and the tenant liaison that now forms an essential part of modern property management. Dave is an avid Rangers fan and guitar enthusiast.
Elaine joined Mason Owen in January 2005. Her role is supporting the Property Accounts Manager with rent and service charge collection, client financial reporting, tenants deposits, bank and service charge reconciliations as well as working on the Exchange Flags portfolio. She enjoys watching and occasionally playing tennis, football and spending time with family in the great outdoors.
Kelly is a CGMA CIMA Finalist with over 25 years finance experience. After working in various city centre accountancy practises, and being a part qualified ACCA accountant providing accounts, tax and auditing services, Kelly made the move over to industry joining Mason Owen in 2005. Kelly works alongside the Finance Director, in the role of Company Accountant / Fleet Manager.
Kelly’s expertise’s assist in all aspects of the company finances along with aligning all policies with the company strategic objective.
Jamie joined Mason Owen in 1998 and is a Director.
Jamie provides advice for Institutional, Property Company and Developer clients on the acquisition and disposal of investments and development sites in all sectors throughout the United Kingdom.
He has recently acted for Liberty Properties, Nuveen, Barkby Real Estate, ION Developments, Promenade Estates, Castle Green, Barratt Developments and BXB.
James joined Mason Owen in May 2001 and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in April 2002.
He is an Associate Partner within the Asset Management Department, advising clients on all aspects of property management.
James also has experience dealing with mixed use schemes together with carrying out rent reviews, lease renewals and associated professional works.
Liam joined the Business Space team in 2023 having previously spent 3 years at Savills working across various property disciplines, qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 2022.
He primarily focuses on the lettings, sales, development and acquisitions of properties across the North West, ensuring to provide clients with the highest level of service.
Outside of surveying Liam enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching Liverpool and Caldy RFC, music and travelling.
Michael is an IT professional with over 15 years’ experience in the industry. He holds various certifications including CompTIA, ITIL, MCSA and is a Partner / Head of IT at Mason Owen after joining the business in 2003.
His expertise lies in design and implementation of IT systems and is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of all IT operations within the organisation, from hardware and software procurement to hyperconvergence, virtualisation, network infrastructure, business continuity and cybersecurity.
A key element of Michael’s role is to develop and implement IT strategies which align with the company’s business objectives, working closely with key stakeholders to identify areas where technology can improve operational efficiency.
Rachael graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a BA Honours degree in Business Studies and has worked at Mason Owen for 19 years. She heads up the property management accounts team and part of her role is to ensure that all Client monies are dealt with in accordance with the RICS rules and regulations. She was involved with the new client set up for one of our newest REIT clients, working to ensure funds were received and distributed on time for inclusion in the Client’s dividend payments.
She also oversees the new Treasury Management function to ensure rental payments are made on time for one of the UK’s major retailers. She has a sound knowledge of service charges and reconciles the Service Charge accounts for one of our prominent managed buildings running at over £1m per annum. She enjoys listening to music, going to concerts and spending time with family and friends.
Having worked at Mason Owen & Partners for 15 years, Sarah has a broad knowledge of managing a diverse portfolio of commercial property including high street retail, out of town shopping centres, industrial estates and multi -let office developments. Sarah has dealt with a range of retained clients from high-net-worth individuals to pension funds and is keen on providing a high level of personal service and maximising returns for her clients. Sarah has experience in dealing with all aspects of Asset Management, from the day to day management to ensure assets are well maintained, rent collection, the operation of service charges including budgeting and reconciliations, as well as dealing with various lease transactions within the managed portfolio.
Sarah graduated from Liverpool University and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in April 2015. Sarah joined the business in July 2019 to Asset Manage one of our key buildings, Exchange Flags. Sarah has a broad range of experience including leasing and letting, property acquisitions and landlord and tenant related issues. Sarah is now focussed on adding value through strategic asset management on Exchange Flags and other key Assets.
Away from Mason Owen Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, and loves being in the outdoors whether it be on the beach or on the ski slopes.
Shaun joined the business in December 2022 to lead the FM aspect of the business, he brought with him a wealth of building services knowledge, amassed through his 20 plus years working in Facilities Management, specialising in HVAC and mechanical engineering.
Over the course of his career Shaun has obtained industry relevant qualifications, including Building Services ONC/HNC, IOSH and Level 5 Operations Manager(MCMI).
Away from Mason Owen Shaun has a passion for Rugby league and now that he has hung up his playing boots, he gives back to the game coaching junior and youth teams, he also is on the committee of his local Rugby League club as Junior Section Head Coach.
Tom graduated from Liverpool John Moore’s University in 2010 and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in April 2015. He originally joined the business in 2012 before a 4 year period with JLL Leeds, managing property investments for institutional landlords in Yorkshire and the North East.
Returning to Mason Owen in 2020, Tom has a broad range of experience and provides management services across a diverse portfolio both in nature and geography. Tom is also focussed on driving value through strategic asset management.
Outside of work Tom enjoys the great outdoors and hobbies such as tennis, bouldering and snowboarding. Before his career (and kids!) Tom was a keen backpacker and has adventured all over the globe.
Wayne is a Partner of Mason Owen and forms part of a team responsible for rent review, lease renewal and associated professional work specialising in retail property.
Throughout a period spanning some 30 years, Wayne has been involved in the valuation of retail units used for food or non-food retail use, occupying both in-town and out-of-town positions throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Wayne is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Zak works in the Asset Management Department managing retail units for clients. This includes rent reviews, lease renewals, chasing arrears and lettings. He has recently joined Mason Owen as a Graduate and aims to take his APC in 2025. Zak has a first-class degree in Real Estate from Liverpool John Moores University. He attended university on a sporting scholarship for his accolades in competing in and winning National and Regional championships in amateur Boxing. Outside of work Zak still enjoys watching the sport of Boxing, football and cooking for his friends and family.
