Mason Owen has been helping national food store retailer Iceland secure premises since the early 1970s. Recently, we helped them in Bangor, North Wales.
Iceland were longstanding tenants in the central Deiniol Shopping Centre. However, food shopping has changed over the past 15 years with food retailers looking to maximise spend per trip. With a town centre store, Iceland were limited to a basket shop and therefore smaller transactions. The development of the Food Warehouse concept saw basket spend increase 3 to 4-fold as customers used shopping trolleys and purchases were taken directly to their cars.
In Bangor, the only location to achieve this warehouse concept was on Caernarfon Road. However, finding suitable premises was proving difficult due to the size requirement for the Food Warehouse. Eventually, we settled on the former Carpetright unit which required an extension to the front and a new frontage feature in line with the Food Warehouse branding.
Mason Owen worked closely with the client throughout the 3 year process from identifying the unit, agreeing terms, submitting a planning application, undertaking the works and opening for trade.
